Hiking trails to the trenches

Start point Dorfzentrum Teis

Two well-preserved and freely accessible trenches with caverns can be reached from the centre of village in a short hike:

  • The Trenches at the Hl.-Grab hill are located a few steps from the village centre on the hill in front, which is visible from afar and offers a wonderful view in all directions. The path that branches off to the left between the first house at the entrance to the village and the hotel ‘Teiser Hof’ is signposted.
  • The Trenches at the Wetterkreuz, which overlooks the village, can be reached in about 10 minutes ascent from the village center. The path branches off above the church and is signposted.

The walk along the paths and trenches is at your own risk, good footwear is recommended.

  • Bus from Chiusa: Bus connection No. 331 (connection to the train from/to Bolzano)
  • Bus from Bressanone: Line 330 direction St. Magdalena/Villnöß to the bus junction Mileins, there change to bus no. 331 to Teis
  • Car: Parking at the entrance to the village near the fire station
Hiking to Teis to visit the trenches:
from Albeins to Teis:

on trail no. 9 from the village center of Albeins in about 1.5 hours in a slight and partly stronger ascent to Teis. 350 Hm in ascent. Return on the same route or by bus 331 towards Klausen to Mileins, there change to bus no. 330 to Bressanone.

  • Car: Parking in Albeins at the village entrance at the fire station
from Mittermühl (inn and bus stop) to Teis:

200 meters on the Teiser Straße (walking path) up to the first bend in the Gostner Graben. There turn-off to lower left on the old Teiser Weg, which runs below the existing road (path no. 9). In more or less gentle ascent you reach Teis in about 30 minutes. 200 Hm in ascent. Return by the same route or by bus.

  • Bus connection No. 331 from Klausen or No. 330 from Brixen to the demand stop Mittermühl

  • Car: Parking approx. 200 m further out of the valley at the stop Mileins or in the first left turn at the Teiser Straße (turn off hiking trail).
from Villnöß / St. Peter to Teis:
  • Variant 1: on trail no. 11 via St. Valentin and Miglanz on a level hike or descent on farm access roads and forest climbing in about 1.5 - 2 hours to Teis. 200 m in the descent.
  • Variant 2: to St. Jakob and the Jochhöfe (so far asphalted) 200 m ascent. From there via Waldsteige 400 Hm in the descent in about 2.5 - 3 hours to Teis (path 30 a or path 5 or 5a, last piece no. 7). Refreshments at the Gasthof Moar am Joch.

  • from Klausen with bus no. 331 direction Teis, at the stop Mileins change to bus no. 330, which goes to St. Peter/Villnöß.
  • From Bressanone by bus no. 330 to St. Peter 
  • from Teis bus connection No. 331 via Mileins directly to Klausen or at the stop Mileins change to bus No. 330 to Brixen

Attention: There is no direct bus connection Teis - St. Peter, waiting 30 minutes in Mittermühl. Alternatively, descend from Teis to Mittermühl on trail no. 9 in about 25 minutes.

from the valley entrance (Melt) to Teis:

in partly stronger, partly slight ascent in about 1.5 hours via Nafen to Teis (path no. 11). 400 Hm in ascent. Return the same way.
